It’s Time for Denver Comic Con!!!

So I first need to apologize to my fellow Sisters In Geek, who have been busting their asses the last several days putting together really great preview posts for Denver Comic Con 2018 while I… I have not busted anything. I decided to start a new job last week and it’s been both emotionally and intellectually draining, and basically every night I come home and stare into space and drool on myself until it’s time to go to bed. So I’m sorry, and I’ll do better in the future.

But I’m here now, and I. AM. SO. EXCITED. I have so much I want to do at con this year, and dearly wish that Dumbledore’s Army hadn’t smashed the entire stock of Time Turners in their fight at the Ministry of Magic, because I could totally use one right about now — whose bright idea was it to schedule all of the cool bookish panels all at the very same times?

Sigh. I will make the grownup choices.

Herewith, my top 10 things I’m looking forward to at Denver Comic Con 2018 (in no particular order):

Bonnie Wright, aka Ginny Weasley. In case you couldn’t tell by my Time Turner comments above, or my Hermione-esque avatar, I’m a bit of a Potterhead. DCC has been really great about showing love to the Potter fandom. Last year we got to meet the Weasley twins. This year, it’s Ginny Weasley herself, Bonnie Wright. She’ll be signing autographs and doing photo ops throughout the weekend, and has a main event Q&A event at 12:30pm on Saturday (Night Lynx Stage @ Main Events in the Bellco Theatre).

Edgar Cantero, sci fi author. Cantero’s Meddling Kids was my favorite new book last year, imagining the Scooby Doo gang as grown ups, traumatized by a dark event in their shared past. He’ll be participating in a number of bookish panels as part of Lit Con (kind of a con within a con), and I can’t wait to hear him talk about the process. He’ll also be signing books in the author area on the con floor a few times throughout the weekend.

David Tennant. Yeah, he was the Tenth Doctor, and that’s cool and all, but he’s also been in a kajillion other things that I’m into, like Broadchurch and Jessica Jones and that whacko Barty Crouch Jr. in the Goblet of Fire movie. I’m living to see the photo that results from a couple of my best friends and my son having a photo op with Mr. Tennant on Saturday. And his Spotlight Q&A event on Sunday at noon should also be a pretty entertaining time (Captain Colorado Stage @ Main Events, in the Bellco Theatre).

John Barrowman, treasure and delight. Look — it doesn’t matter if you’ve seen John Barrowman in any of the nine bazillion nerdy shows he’s starred in. The fact is, he’s an utter delight and his Q&A events are never to be missed. He wears silly dresses and spins around in heels and one time he climbed over the seats to take a question and his butt was right within slapping distance of Carolyn and me and it was all we could do to control ourselves. Plus he always brings his parents and his husband and they are all adorable and delightful as well. He is doing autographs and photo ops throughout the weekend in Celebrity Summit, and his Spotlight Q&A is Saturday at 5pm (Captain Colorado Stage @ Main Events, in the Bellco Theatre).

HODOR! Yes, that’s right — Denver Comic Con has scored for us yet another Game of Thrones fan favorite as a guest this year — Hodor himself, actor and internationally famous house DJ Kristian Nairn. He’ll be doing signings and photo ops in Celebrity Summit throughout the weekend (we’re having a family photo done with him — stay tuned for that in my comic con diary, coming soon!), and he’ll be doing two different Q&A panels, one with Isaac Hempstead-Wright (aka Bran) at 1pm on Saturday (Captain Colorado Stage @ Main Events, in the Bellco Theatre), and a solo Q&A on Sunday at 3pm (Metropolis Room, Mile High Ballroom DCCP2). Pook and I are hoping he’s allowed to bust out a DJ set.

Okay and also Bran. I guess Hodor wouldn’t be himself without his albatross, Bran Stark, so DCC has also booked Isaac Hempstead-Wright for this year’s con. I look forward to seeing how he is a grown ass adult man, and probably 8 feet tall in real life. He will be doing autographs and photo ops in Celebrity Summit throughout the weekend, and the main event Q&A with Kristian Nairn on Saturday at 1pm (Captain Colorado Stage @ Main Events, in the Bellco Theatre).

So many authors! DCC’s Booktopia and Lit Con are booked to the brim with wonderful authors this year, and seriously if you can’t find an author you’re into or a new book to read after spending some time amongst these talents, I just feel bad for you. There is an awful lot here to choose from, so go ahead and give this info straight from DCC a perusal: Denver Comic Con Booktopia.

Catching up with our favorite artists. We have SO MANY favorite artists and it’s always so much fun to see what new pieces they bring to con with them. Check out some of our other preview posts for a small taste: MJ EricksonBen ByrdMonkey Minion PressElisa Wikey, and Jenny Parks. We will buy all of the things because we can’t rest until every inch of bare wall space in our homes is covered with lovely geeky artwork.

The next-level nerdiness of Carolyn’s panels. Our own Carolyn submitted and had accepted three panels this year, and I can’t wait to see her and Megan and their guest panelists nerd out about things I know nothing of. Having best friends who are passionate about things that make them happy is the thing that I am most passionate about.

Cosplay! Hands down one of the best parts of comic con is seeing all of the amazing cosplayers and the hard work they’ve put into their costumes. Stay tuned for a thousand photos!!!

Follow along with us over the next three days, or say hi to us if you’re at Denver Comic Con!
