Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale (volume 3) by Joss and Zack Whedon 56 pages
Shepherd Book’s life flashes before his eyes.
Although this is the third Serenity volume, it can be read as a standalone if you are familiar with the Firefly verse.
Book Review
There are parts of this telling that I love, but moments too that just aren’t enough. I really wish we had more than drunk Shepherd Book being kicked by a soldier before he transitions into the thinking Book we know so well. Out of his whole story, his reaction to killing all those people is something I wanted to see, not just him drinking it away, or yelling at a superior in the time frame before. That moment is a pivot, and it fell flat.
