For Wade Watts, the real life world of 2044 simply has nothing to offer, but in the VR world OASIS he has the chance to be a hero. Famous, admired, rich. To do so, he must solve the ultimate nerdy riddle. A love letter to the 80s, the internet, and gaming, Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One is a fun, sweet ride through the playground of the ultimate online experience.
Book Review
Ready Player One is ambitious. It has many of the hallmark issues of a debut novel. Certain sections are info dumps. Some of the secondary characterization is flat.
All that being said, this book is fun. Like, way way super fun. Wade is sympathetic and funny as a protagonist and I found the story of the Quest compelling and engaging. This is the perfect book to read over a weekend or on vacation.
Go play in the OASIS; you won’t regret it. Bring your trivia knowledge, your love of classic video games and your sense of adventure.
We recommend listening to this as an audible book. Wil Wheaton does wonderful narration.
