Girl Genius Series (volumes 1-5) by Phil and Kaja Foglio 560 Pages, Five Volumes (Incomplete)
Agatha has always designed complex machines and assisted with mad science, but nothing she’s built has ever worked until now, and it changes everything. This omnibus is the beginning of a story of mad science, intrigue, lost family, love, and more mad science.
Book Review
I love this series because it is unpredictable in its crazy creativity. There may be a deus ex machina every now and then to save everyone, but it has to be built by hand, or by cute little clanks. All the characters, even the minor ones, have such distinctive voices, it is a pleasure to read the group scenes. Often in comics when there are group scenes I get confused by who’s talking or what is happening. Phil and Kaja handle these and the action scenes beautifully. I just love everything about this series. The world, the characters, the way science works and feels like magic, the crazy loyalties and wars that are happening. I’ll try hard to think of negatives and come back and insert them if I do.
This series is also available to read for free on www.girlgeniusonline.com. However, if you start reading it, and love it like I do, support it. Buy something in their shop, or buy their books. That way, we can keep getting MORE!
