Fortune’s Pawn (Paradox book 1) by Rachel Bach 341 pages
Devi Morris is a mercenary looking for something more dangerous than her usual jobs fighting outlaws and aliens. She needs a position to show off her skills so she can get her ultimate dream job. The Glorious Fool is a ship that goes through security staff as fast as if it were in its own personal war zone. The perfect place to showoff and get noticed, if she can live, and overlook the mystery of how a simple trade ship sees more combat than it should.
Book Review
I’m a bit of bloodthirsty reader. Not that I want graphic violence. Just lots of combat. Why should I have to wait for the end of the book for a big fight? Fortune’s Pawn is big fight after big fight. Rachel Bach doesn’t hold back on the action scenes. In between the combat, Devi is always looking for more trouble. She’s investigating things she shouldn’t, and flirting with the cook. I think Devi could find a way to make any space cruise interesting.
