DCC 2018 Artist Preview: Meg Kirkpatrick
Denver Comic Con (June 15-17) is almost here! Artists are coming from all over to sell us their fabulous nerd art. We’ll be doing preview posts so you can plan your con shopping. Trust me, you don’t want to run out of money right before finding THE BEST FAN ART OF ALL TIME. At the very least, you should check out several artists covering your fandoms before starting your big purchases.
Meg Kirkpatrick (Meg Mcmuffins) first captured our hearts with her silly Blucifer art. She truly captures his soul, which is also the souls of all those he takes. Be careful never to look into his eyes if you fly in to DIA.
She also makes fan art for all the best fandoms: Supernatural, Hamilton, Hannibal, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Mad Max, and Marvel. She is, most importantly, one of our favorite artists for Critical Role.
She’ll be at booth W8 in Artist Valley, and on our Critical Role Panel:
Critical Role Fan Forum
Sunday June 17th, 11:00 am to 11:50 am, Room 607
What do most people come to your booth to talk to you about?
Lately most people coming to my table at con have been asking about one of my two favorite fandoms: Critical Role or Hannibal! Both are always super surprised to see they’re favs at the show, and I love nothing more than geeking out together about it all.
What new thing do you want everyone to know about? (New campaign Crit Role art???)
I will definitely have new Critical Role art, including the whole Mighty Nein crew. I’m also working on stickers, and a big big big series of portrait – the Crit Role cast all meeting their characters face to face. I’m super duper excited about it!
What person, panel, or event at DCC are you most excited for?
Weeeell, DCC is a special con for me since I basically grew up in Denver AND this year it’s my birthday on the first day of the show!! So it’s basically guaranteed to be the most fun con no matter what.
What’s your most popular item at cons?
The items I’m most excited for at cons right now are my new stickers. I’ve never really offered them at my table before because I was worried about quality and traveling with them, but I found an amazingly awesome small sticker company just recently that worked with me to make the cutest stickers. I’m so happy with them and I can’t wait to bring them to DCC and show everyone.
Most hilarious con story, please!
Uh oh, most hilarious con story? Well, that’s easy, and this happens a LOT! I actually have what’s called “face blindness” (prosopagnosia), which means I don’t recognize people by their faces. It’s why I love drawing portraits so much, since it lets me focus in on something that causes me so much trouble. Unfortunately though, its lead to a lot of awkward conversations at conventions…There have been many many times I’ve had a wonderful conversation with someone, and asked them 10 minutes later if we’ve met before. Whoops!
What’s the most interesting commission you’ve done?
I’ve done a lot of really awesome and crazy commissions over the years, but one of my favorites to date was absolutely nuts. It was a pen drawing of a multi headed horse creature that was magically growing HUNDREDS of other screaming horse heads all over its body!! It was pretty wild, but fun.
What can fans do to support your work beyond buying your cool stuff?
Support comes in so many ways, and honestly one of the most important ways is as simple as following and commenting when you like a thing! It may not feel like much, but to an artist that really can mean the world.
Where can we find you at Denver Comic Con?
I’ll have a table in Artist Valley, table W8, next to my good friend and fellow amazing artist Brian Linss.
You can also find Meg Kirkpatrick (Meg Mcmuffins) at her webpage, twitter, and instagram.
