Refresher for Avengers: Infinity War
It’s time to prepare your brain for Avengers: Infinity War! Here are my nerd notes on MCU, in case you don’t have time to watch movie after movie of super action fun.
All right, now… where did we leave everyone at the end of their respective movies, and where are all those Infinity Stones?
Thanos: “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” Thanos and his unbejeweled gauntlet are setting out to find some stones!
The Nova Corps accepted the purple Infinity Stone (Power Stone) at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. Planet Xandar was just saved. Nova Prime is thanking them, and showing Peter Quill he is half human, half who knows what kind of alien. Corpsman Dey was promoted to Denarian Dey. However, as minor characters guarding an Infinity Stone, they’re at risk. I hate to be a pessimist, but this planet may be toast.
Taneleer Tivan, The Collector, also accepted an Infinity Stone. The Asgardians brought him the red Infinity Stone (Reality Stone) to keep safe. After this, his slave Carina blew up his collection, in Guardians of the Galaxy, but he survived. The Collector is another potential target now that Thanos is getting serious about putting some gems on his glove. The Collector also has been trying to collect the Infinity Stones, but possibly just to put on display and stare at in a creepy fashion. (Does anyone remember the terrible fan theory where The Collector was Star-Lord’s dad? Anyone? Just me? Okay. It was definitely terrible, though.)
Vision has the yellow Infinity Stone (Mind Stone) in his head. Vision is probably still at the new Avengers base with the “noncriminal” Avengers like Tony Stark. Captain America broke The Falcon, Ant-man, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch out of their floating jail. Spider-man just turned down an Avengers gig, before he was actually asked, so he’s probably back in Queens, going to high school some more.
Doctor Strange, Wong, and Mordo saved the world from the Dark Dimension. Doctor Strange is now Sorcerer Supreme, in charge of protecting Earth from evil magic stuff. He’s also using the green Infinity Stone (Time) in this scene, and needs to make sure no one uses it to destroy the whole universe. Mordo is so disturbed by Doctor Strange using the Time Stone, and not following the natural order of everyone dying, that he storms off, leaving Wong and Doctor Strange to protect the sanctums on their own. Time to go to Kamar-Taj and get trained up! Mystic Arts job openings now in Hong Kong, New York, and London!
The Guardians of the Galaxy found Peter Quill’s alien dad, then blew him up to save the Universe. In the end, they said goodbye to Yondu. Nebula and Gamora hugged it out and discussed the need to kill Thanos. The Guardians are probably most on mission for Infinity War. The Ravagers were reunited at Yondu’s funeral and are setting off to go cause some trouble.
Thor, Hulk, Loki, Heimdall, Korg, Meek and Scrapper 142-Valkerie (Brunnhilde?) are on a ship full of Asgardian refugees on their way to Earth. Loki just snagged the blue Infinity Stone (Space Stone) from the vault on the way out of town. So I’m sure this ship is perfectly safe. I’m sure everything will be fine. Oh but wait…
Thor’s ship seems to have attracted this big ship. It doesn’t look like a nice ship. I think a lot of my favorite characters are in danger. Hmm. We’ll see in the beginning of Infinity Wars…
Finally, chances are good that the final orange Infinity Stone (Soul Stone) is in Wakanda. They talk to dead loved ones there, which seems very Soul Stone like. I guess the movie explanation could be right, that they just have some really good herbs. I think those herbs had some Infinity Stone help though. T’Challa is back in power in Wakanda with General Okoye and Nakia backing him up. They’ve decided to tell the world about science, so Shuri may be out teaching Tony Stark and Bruce Banner some stuff.
At least this Infinity War promo pic shows that Wakanda is ready for a fight. BRING IT, THANOS!
